Bayern Munich have signalled an end to their attempts to sign Germany Under-21 international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from Schalke.
The 23-year-old had previously been earmarked as a top summer target for the Bavarian giants, but Bayern have now given up hope of landing Neuer.
General manager Uli Hoeness told the Tageszeitung newspaper: "We are not travelling to Gelsenkirchen to negotiate, so the topic of Manuel Neuer is no longer an issue.
"We are also not seeking an alternative. We will go into the new season with Han-Jorg Butt and Michael Rensing."
