Bastian pens Bayern deal

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger has finally put pen to paper on a new long-term deal.

The 24-year-old Germany international had been linked with moves to Juventus and Real Madrid next summer when his previous Bayern contract was set to expire.

However, Schweinsteiger has inked a contract extension that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2012.

The club's general manager Uli Hoeness had said last week that he was confident an agreement was close.

He had told Bayern's official website: "We are close to having him stay with us.

"There are one or two details to clear up, but I think we will be able to make a clear statement about it in the next few days."

"We're delighted we've reached a positive conclusion with Bastian, another very important personality at the club," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added when the new deal had been confirmed.
