- CFR Cluj 0-4 Bayern Munich: As it happened

Already motoring towards the knockout stages, Louis van Gaal's side continue to cast aside their domestic worries and were rarely stretched by a timid Romanian outfit in their Group E clash.

Master poacher Mario Gomez struck in the 12th and 24th minutes to hand the Bavarians a healthy lead and completed his hat-trick in the second half before Thomas Muller rounded things off in the last minute.

Long-range Bayern dangerman Toni Kroos took the opportunity for a sighter when he let fly from 25 yards in the seventh minute, but looked on as his effort fizzed over the bar.

Emil Dica was similarly optimistic at the other end as his right-footed effort from 30 yards was easily caught by Hans-Jorg Butt.

With less than 12 minutes gone, however, the deadlock was broken by Gomez. Kroos had a shot which Gomez directed goalwards and, although Eduard Stancioiu made the save, the Germany international was on hand to tap home the loose ball.

And from their next chance of note, Bayern were 2-0 up with Gomez again the man in the right place at the right time.

Hamit Altintop swung in a cross which Bastian Schweinsteiger nodded on for Gomez to swoop and stab home from close range.

In the 29th minute Kroos had another shot from outside the area which Stancioiu caught comfortably. At the other end Cluj had a rare chance when Tomas Costa shot from distance but Anatoliy Tymoschuk made the block.

The hosts looked mightily dejected as Andreas Ottl was allowed a 25-yard shot which went wide before Altintop kept Stancioiu busy but never really tested the goalkeeper.

Cluj made a double change at half-time, Ioan Hora and Fraga Edimar sent on for Rafael Bastos and Emil Dica.

Roberto De Zerbi had a shot blocked by Daniel van Buyten and Culio volleyed a left-footed effort from the left which brought a superb save out of Butt in the Romanians' best chance by far.

In the 52nd minute they came even closer to scoring when Felice Piccolo headed Edimar's cross powerfully only to see the ball hit the post.

Ottl continued Bayern's shoot-on-sight policy and this time came close as Stancioiu was forced into an excellent save at the expense of a corner.

Kroos fired one wide before Gomez wrapped things up with his hat-trick in the 70th minute. More sterling work by Schweinsteiger on the right saw him direct the ball towards goal expertly, where Gomez was waiting to sweep home and delight the travelling faithful.

Further half-chances came and went but by this point the points were long sewn up, with Muller adding a deserved fourth in the last minute after being set up by Altintop.
