Robert Lewandowski became the quickest foreigner to score 100 goals in the Bundesliga as his brace helped Bayern Munich extend their lead at the top of the standings with a 3-0 victory at Mainz.

The Pole, who netted the quickest hat-trick in the league's history in midweek, bagging five goals in just under nine minutes, joined the century club and took his tally for the season to 10 after just seven games.

Only Gerd Muller on two occasions had scored as many goals so soon in a season as the in-form Lewandowski, whose team have a five-point advantage at the top of the standings before Borussia Dortmund's clash with Darmstadt on Sunday.

Kingsley Coman scored the other goal for Pep Guardiola's men, who are just a win away from equalling their own league record number of consecutive wins from the start of a season.

Wolfsburg, the team Bayern beat 5-1 in midweek, continued to stutter with a 1-1 draw against Hannover seeing them fall nine points behind Bayern.

Hiroshi Kiyotake cancelled out Bas Dost's goal to earn Hannover their first point in six games and ease the pressure on their coach Michael Frontzeck.

On Saturday evening, Schalke moved four points clear of the Wolves and level on points with Dortmund with their fourth straight win, thanks to Leroy Sane's goal in a 1-0 win at Hamburg.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen broke into the top five ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday.

Admir Mehmedi, Julian Brandt and Kevin Kampl scored the goals for Roger Schmidt's men.

At the bottom of the table, Borussia Monchengladbach made it two wins from two since Lucien Favre resigned, with Granit Xhaka, a Christian Gentner own goal and a late Raffael strike earning them a 3-1 win at Stuttgart, who slumped to their fourth home defeat in a row.

Fellow strugglers Augsburg were also beaten at home with Hoffenheim picking up their first win of the season, a 3-1 triumph at the Augsburg Arena.
