Bundesliga remains Europe's most profitable league

Germany's Bundesliga remains the most profitable football league in Europe with a surplus of 138 million euros (200m US dollars) from the 2009/2010 season, according to figures published Thursday.

Among Europe's "Big Five" league's from Germany, England, Spain, France and Italy, the Bundesliga remains Europe's highest earner.

England's Premier League is second with a profit of 101 million euros, according to figures released after a survey by Deloitte.

Both France's Ligue 1 and Italy's Serie A showed deficits of 102 million euros.

A Deloitte spokesman told AFP Spanish clubs do not publish their net results, but their figures could be expected to remain in the red.

The turnover of clubs in Europe's top five leagues totalled 16.3 billion euros in 2009/2010, an increase of 4 percent.

England's Premier League remains by far the highest earner, generating 2.5 billion euros of revenue, with the Bundesliga second with 1.66 billion euros.
