Bundesliga approves goal-line tech

The Bundesliga will introduce goal-line technology from the start of next season.

The decision was made at a meeting of the 18 Bundesliga clubs in Frankfurt on Wednesday where 15 voted in favour of bringing in the technology.

The decision comes just nine months after clubs from the Bundesliga and the second tier voted against the idea but the new vote will only apply to the top tier.

Hawk-Eye, the system used in the Barclays Premier League and also in tennis and cricket, has been handed a three-year deal to provide the technology.

"From the 2015-16 season, goal-line technology will be used in the stadiums of the 18 clubs in the Bundesliga," read a statement on www.bundesliga.de.

"It was achieved at today's meeting with 15 votes in favour and three negative votes in a secret ballot that required a two-thirds majority for introduction.

"FIFA licensed providers Hawk-Eye will be charged with the installation and operation of the system over the next three years."
