The mystery blaze which gutted the luxury villa belonging to Bayern Munich defender Breno last September was started by a deliberate act of arson, German daily Bild reported Wednesday on their website.

According to Bild's sources, a survey of the gutted property has confirmed the fire was started deliberately with the footballer home alone.

The 22-year-old was taken into custody for 12 days after the fire completely destroyed his house in the Gruenewald superb of Munich on September 19, but he was later freed on bail with strict conditions.

Bild report Breno could be indicted in late March or early April and would face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

Breno underwent knee surgery on February 10 and has yet to make an appearance for Bayern this season having joined the Bavarian giants in 2008.
