Bayern must beat Napoli, says Schweinsteiger

Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger has insisted the Bavarian giants must beat Napoli at home on Wednesday in the Champions League to stay top of Group A.

Bayern are two points clear at the top of the table with seven points from three games and a win over Napoli at Munich's Allianz Arena will put Schweinsteiger's team on the verge of the knock-out stages.

"It is obligatory for Bayern Munich to pick up three points," said Schweinsteiger, who is set to play despite taking a knock to his calf in Saturday's 4-0 win over Nuremberg in the German league.

"We can, and will, make the knock-out stages."

Bayern had their 13-match unbeaten run ended by Hanover ten days ago and after leading Group A with wins at home over Manchester City and away at Villarreal, captain Philipp Lahm says they must keep winning to stay top.

"We want to make everything clear with a win," said Lahm.

"That is what Bayern Munich demands, it's what the coach demands and each one of the players."

Since they were beaten 1-0 by Borussia Moenchengladbach in the German league on August 7, Bayern have won all eight home matches without conceding a goal and scoring 33 in the process.

"We are currently a force at home, so why shouldn't we also win against Napoli?" said Bayern's Germany forward Thomas Mueller.

Bayern are still to host Villarreal, on November 22, and to play City in Manchester on December 7, but coach Heynckes warned against taking Napoli lightly.

"I have been impressed by Napoli as a team and by how passionately they are playing," said Heynckes, with the Italians fifth in Serie A.

"They have a strong attack and we must be careful."
