Bayern Munich v Arsenal factfile

Factfile on holders Bayern Munich and Arsenal ahead of the Champions League last 16, second leg tie between the clubs on Tuesday with Bayern holding a 2-0 lead:

Form: The reigning European champions are fancied by many to become the first club to successfully defend the trophy in the Champions League era. Pep Guardiola's team have won 22 of 23 games since early October, the exception being an ultimately inconsequential 3-2 home defeat to Manchester City in the group stage. Since they beat Arsenal in the first leg they have gone into overdrive winning their three Bundesliga games, scoring 15 goals and conceding just two. Arsenal by contrast are seven points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea, though, they have a game in hand. They warmed up for the second leg with an ultimately impressive looking 4-1 win over Everton in their FA Cup quarter-final, though, the most encouraging thing for manager Arsene Wenger was the return to form of French striker Olivier Giroud, who didn't start the first leg after tabloid stories about his personal life, as he scored twice. The English side have not progressed beyond the last 16 in any of the last three seasons, losing to Bayern at this stage 12 months ago. Arsenal can take heart in that Bayern have not won in their last three home fixtures with English clubs.
