BATE 2-2 PSG: Match Report

Luyindula leaves it late A last-minute goal from Peguy Luyindula earned Paris St Germain a 2-2 away draw against BATE Borisov to leave their Europa League last-32 clash nicely poised ahead of next week's return leg in France. Renan Bressan had opened the scoring for the Belarusian club, but Mevlut Erdinc cancelled that out at Dinamo Stadion only for Mikhail Gordeychuk to restore BATE's lead nine minutes from time. That looked to have won the match for the hosts until Luyindula's header. PSG looked confident in the early stages and Nene had their first chance after seven minutes with a left-footed strike which cleared the crossbar. Mevlut Erdinc then warmed the hands of Aleksandr Hutar with a low drive, and the BATE goalkeeper made an even better save after 13 minutes to block a powerful 30-yard effort from Nene. It was something of a surprise when the home side took the lead three minutes later with their first attack. Vitaly Rodionov played in Bressan with a neat pass which the Brazilian midfielder tucked into the bottom left corner. PSG set about finding an immediate equaliser and Clement Chantome came close with a shot which he pushed narrowly past the post. Luyindula's dangerous 25-yard strike after 23 minutes was bettered by a wonderful fingertip save from Hutar, while Chantome wasted another opening soon after, firing over the bar from the edge of the area. The visitors' pressure finally paid off on the half hour, though, thanks to Erdinc, who picked up a pass from Luyindula before slotting home from 12 yards. Erdinc could have added to his tally moments later but another intervention from Hutar ensured the scores remained level. PSG goalkeeper Edel Bete also played his part before the interval, palming away Bressan's strike from distance. Bete was called upon again six minutes after the restart to turn away another long-range drive, this time from Filipp Rudik. And the visiting goalkeeper continued to be tested as the half went on, first parrying a low shot from Alexander Volodko before denying Rodionov from close range. BATE finally found a way through nine minutes from time, though. Volodko's right-footed drive came back off the crossbar but Gordeychuk was on hand to tuck the ball home. But PSG had not finished either and Luyindula popped up a minute from time with a header into the top right corner following Maurice's cross from the left wing.
