United ace set for Tykes loan

Barnsley are set to hand a loan deal to Manchester United's highly-rated 19-year-old defender Ryan Shawcross. The youngster is keen to gain some first-team experience and would relish a move to Oakwell while Tykes boss Andy Ritchie is desperate to bolster his backline. Sheffield United's former defender Chris Morgan had been linked with the Championship side, but Ritchie rubbished claims he wanted to sign the veteran late last week and it now appears that Shawcross is his top target. Barnsley are in talks with United over a deal and could sign the player in time for this weekend's South Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday.
