Tykes sweat on Reid

Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie is anxiously awaiting news of the hamstring injury captain Paul Reid suffered during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Blackpool.

Reid, who also needed three stitches in a facial wound, will definitely miss the LDV Vans Trophy clash with Doncaster on Tuesday, but could be sidelined until December if the problem proves to be serious.

Physio Rick Holden told the Tykes' official website: "He was forced out of the action late on with what looked on first impressions to be a bad hamstring tear.

"However, it has settled down and responded a little and we now believe it is more of a sciatic nerve stretch which cramped up his hamstring quite vigorously and painfully.

"A sciatic problem like that is very intense and very painful and we will let it settle down and allow any blood to clear up before sending him for a further scan.

"The worse case scenario is that Paul will be out for six weeks but we are hopeful at this stage that it will not be that long."

Meanwhile, Barnsley defender Tony Vaughan has been forced to cut short his loan spell at Stockport County after suffering a medial ligament injury.
