Tykes stay delights Macken

Former Preston North End and Manchester City striker Jon Macken has penned a new one-year contract with Barnsley.

The 31-year-old has scored 17 goals in 75 appearances for the Tykes since moving to Oakwell 18 months ago and is delighted to have sorted out his immediate future.

Macken told the club's official website: "I'm very pleased as I always wanted to stay at Barnsley.

"I told the manager that at the end of the season and all my family knew that I wanted to stay here so it's great to get it all signed.

"It was an easy decision really. I've fully enjoyed my time here.

"I enjoyed playing last season even though it didn't work out how we all wanted and we only avoided relegation on the last day of the season.

"I enjoyed every game I played and I'm looking forward to next season."
