Tykes handed Hassell blow

Barnsley will be without Bobby Hassell for at least four weeks after the defender was sent for surgery to cure a knee problem.

The 27-year-old has not made an appearance for the Tykes this season and is expected to be sidelined until at least November.

"He will have to go through a pre-season programme and get a good level of fitness," physio Richard Kay told the club's official website.

"We will look to condense six weeks worth of fitness work into a month."

Meanwhile, the Tykes have handed a first professional contract to teenage midfielder Jacob Butterfield.
