Hill looks to recruit two permanently to go with his loan men.

Reds boss Keith Hill is hoping to add two permanent signings to his ranks before next Tuesday’s home clash with Derby County.

The Reds have a free weekend due to their exit from the FA Cup at the Third Round stage, and this is giving Hill time to bolster his squad for the assault on the final 19 games of the season.

Barnsley currently sit 15th in the Championship with 36 points- one point less than at this stage last season but they sit just seven points off the top six and after recruiting Chris Dagnall from Scunthorpe and securing the loans of Michael Tonge from Stoke and Korey Smith from Norwich, Hill is keen to take his tally of January signings to five.

He told the official website:

“We're still wanting to add two permanent additions to the squad before next Tuesday.”

In addition to that, Hill could opt to extend the loan of midfielder Miles Addison. The 23 year old’s current spell from Derby ends on January 28th, so he has technically played his final game for the club.

But according to Director Don Rowing, the deal could be extended until the end of the season after the former England Under 21 international has started every game since starting a second loan spell with the club on the 2nd January.

Rowing told the Sheffield Star:

“We’re leaving our options open with Miles Addison.

“He’s obviously not going to be able to play against Derby (Jan 31). He’s played more games in the last month since we re-signed him, but it’s down to Keith [Hill] whether he wants to keep him.”
