Trip To The Champions!

Reds face Manchester City in Quarter-Finals.

If Barnsley are going to make their second trip to Wembley in the space of five years they are going to have to do it the hard way, just like in 2008.

Former Reds boss Simon Davey, who masterminded those memorable FA Cup triumphs over Liverpool and Chelsea pulled The Reds ball out of the bag to send them to the Etihad Stadium to face Premier League champions Manchester City.

Roberto Mancini’s side booked their spot in only their second quarter-final in five years by defeating Barnsley’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 4-0 at home today.

The 2011 winners are likely to field a strong side in three weeks time as the famous old competition represents probably their only chance of silverware this season.

The two sides have met once before in the FA Cup, in a Fifth Round tie in February 1993 when two David White goals saw City through at Maine Road.

Barnsley have made only two trips to the Eithad Stadium and both brought heavy beatings. In April 2002, the Reds were thrashed 5-1 in front of the SKY cameras as City powered towards the Division One title and Barnsley headed towards relegation and then in September 2004, Premier League City tore apart League One Barnsley 7-1 in a League Cup tie. Bobby Hassell was in The Reds side that night.
