Most agents are forever trying to engineer transfers for their clients, in order to secure a sizeable fee for themselves but, rather refreshingly, John Stones' agent has said the 18 year old would be better off staying at Oakwell for the time being.
It has been a fairy tale year so far for the Barnsley born youngster, who, having made his debut in March, has, in 2012-13, made his first start, scored his first goal and made his first appearance at international level, for the England U19s.
This has inevitability led to speculation of a January move to the Premier League with scouts from Everton, European Champions Chelsea and Barclays Premier League Champions Manchester City all making several visits to Oakwell to watch him.
Georgina Lillis, his agent with Star Management Signings has though stated the best thing for Stones is regular first team football, which he is getting under Keith Hill.
She told Sky Sports:
"There has been a lot of unwanted paper talk with regards to John, It doesn't benefit the club and it doesn't benefit John.
"Just because a scout is seen in the stands it doesn't mean a player is on the move next window.
"John is at a point in his career where he needs to be playing first team football and to keep developing as a player. Barnsley is doing just that and valuable experience with England is helping him progress.
"If there is any interest or approach from Premier League clubs for John then that's between them and Barnsley.
“Of course John wants to play in the Premier League but what's most important, at this stage, is that he doesn't get his head turned and keeps working hard and improving."
Meanwhile the club have today dismissed reports in the Sheffield Star that claim management duo Hill and David Flitcroft have become unsettled over rumours of a takeover by an Italian consortium.
