Team News

Chris O’Grady is the Reds only slight doubt ahead of this crucial relegation scrap with Yeovil.

The 27 year old top scorer has missed the last four matches, three of which Barnsley have failed to score in, with a calf strain. He has returned to training this week but will face a late fitness test before caretaker manager Micky Mellon decides whether he will be in the squad.

Interesting Stats

This will be only the third ever meeting between the two clubs. They have met once at Oakwell, and once at Huish Park, both in the Reds victorious promotion season of 2005-2006.

In the one Oakwell meeting in August 2005, Terry Skiverton played at the heart of the Yeovil defence; he is now their assistant manager. He has held this role since 2012, and was actually the manager between 2009 and 2012.

Their current manager Gary Johnson was also the main man on that day eight years ago, but left Huish Park 37 days later to take over at Bristol City. He then managed Peterborough and Northampton before returning to Yeovil in January last year and led them into the second tier of English football in May for the first time in their history.

Whoever scores for Barnsley tomorrow (if anybody does) will be only the second Reds player to net against the Glovers. Robbie Williams is the other and he netted in both of the two meetings they have had.

Martin Cranie is set to face his hometown club whilst Stephen Dawson will go up against his brother, Kevin.

Yeovil are the Championship’s joint lowest scorers but have netted six in their last three matches to record two wins and a draw, their best run of the season.

The Glovers have won two matches on the road this season. Only Bolton and Birmingham have won more amongst the bottom half sides.

Yeovil are the Championship’s joint lowest scorers. Their 16 strikes from 19 matches is only matched by Charlton and they have only scored more than once on four occasions

They have though only conceded 14 times on the road, only Wigan and Bolton in the bottom half have conceded less.

Gary Johnson’s men have though had big gaps between their two away successes. The first was on the opening day at the season at Millwall, and the second was on their most recent away game, at Watford on the 30th November.

Gary Johnson has faced Barnsley three times as a manager over a 13-year period and has lost them all!

Record: LLL

As Cambridge manager: lost 2-1 14/11/92, lost 2-0 9/3/92

As Yeovil manager: lost 2-0 20/8/05

Barnsley have won just two of their last 21 matches, and eight of the last 33.

The Reds have also now failed to score in four of their last five matches.

Barnsley are yet to win a game this season if they are not winning at half time.

They have conceded 37 goals in their 19 matches, the joint most in the division along with Millwall.

They have scored just 18 times (only Charlton and tomorrow’s opponents Yeovil have scored less with 16). This gives them a goal difference of –19. Only Crewe with –25 have a worse GD in the Football League.

Barnsley have won just two home games this season, the joint lowest in the division and the 19 home goals they have conceded is the most in the Championship.

The Reds have won just one of their last five matches at Oakwell, drawing three of them.
