Interesting Stats

Although Barnsley have won three more Oakwell meetings than Middlesbrough, the visitors have netted six more goals.

Middlesbrough have kept just one clean sheet in 2013-2014 and have managed just one in their last 15 games in all competitions.

The Reds have lost eight of their first 11 league matches for the first time since 1966-67 They did recover however to finish 16th that campaign.

If they lose to Middlesbrough tomorrow they will create an unwanted piece of history. No Barnsley side has EVER lost nine of their first 12 league matches.

Overall Barnsley have now won just two of the last 20 matches in all competitions and one of the last 14.

They are looking for their first win in six matches. The last time they went six without a win was December of last year when they failed to win for 11.

The Football League’s leakiest defence has gone their first 11 matches without a clean sheet for the first time since 1966-67.

Back then they managed to get their first shut out in their 12th matches. If Barnsley fail to stop Middlesbrough from scoring it will be the first time they have gone their first 12 league matches without a clean sheet since 1952-1953- 61 years ago- when it took an amazing 19 matches to achieve their first shut out. That season is arguably the worst in the club’s history. They finished bottom after picking up just 18 points from 42 matches and won just five games, both the lowest in the club’s history.
