Interesting Stats

Both these sides have won 18 of the 46 meetings, and both have netted 69 goals.

When these two sides last met Barnsley were seven points adrift of safety but won 2-0, and then won each of their next three league matches.

That result sealed Barnsley’s first league double over Millwall for 17 years.

The Reds have won three of their seven trips to Millwall’s current Den home, but won only two of 16 visits to the old Den.

The home team are usually the victors however when these side meet. As just mentioned Barnsley have won just five times at Millwall from 23 visits, whilst the Lions have only roared six times at Oakwell, also from 23 trips.

Barnsley’s win at Millwall in December of last year was Keith Hill’s final victory as Barnsley manager and the only one he managed in his final 14 matches.

Millwall failed to win any of their first six Championship matches under new manager Steve Lomas before winning three on the bounce. Those are the only three the Lions have managed however and they are now on a run of six without a victory (D3 L3).

They have not gone seven matches without a victory for two years.

Along with Barnsley, Millwall are the division’s highest conceders. Both sides have seen 31 goals fly into their net from just 15 matches- more than 2 a game.

The Lions have shipped 12 of those goals at home- only The Reds and Derby have conceded more home goals.

Millwall have picked up just 14 points from their 15 matches- their lowest total at this stage of a season since 2007-2008 when they had 13.

Lomas’ side have kept just one clean sheet at home this season, against Barnsley’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds.

Home form has been a big problem for Millwall in recent years. They lost 11 in front of their own fans in 2012-2013, the joint most in the Championship.

Millwall have tended to have sequences of results this season. Their record reads LLLDDDLWWWLLDDDL, so the next result should be a defeat!

Millwall manager Steve Lomas faced Barnsley six times as a player with Manchester City, West Ham and Queens Park Rangers, winning three and losing three.

Barnsley have gone four games without defeat for the first time this season, and the first time since the final four games of last season. The last time they went five league games unbeaten was January/February when they managed six, in the middle of a run of nine unbeaten in all competitions.

Last time out Barnsley picked up their first clean sheet of the season at the 15th time of asking. The last time they had back to back clean sheets were back in April- the last time they had actually kept a clean sheet before Doncaster.

Barnsley picked up their first point on the road in their most recent away game- at Ipswich, ending a run of six straight defeats.

The Reds are searching for their first away victory since the 9th February, a run of 15 matches.
