Interesting Stats

Barnsley have only ever won twice at Ipswich, in 1998 and 2010. They have lost 13 and drawn four of the other 17 visits to Portman Road.

The Reds have only scored 13 goals at Portman Road and have only netted more than once on three occasions- 2010, 1998 and 1995.

Ipswich have scored in each of their last 11 matches with Barnsley and out of the 40 meetings overall they have only failed to find the net in seven of them.

The Tractor Boys have however only netted once in seven of the last eight meetings.

The two sides have met in front of the SKY cameras twice before, matches that have produced a staggering total of 14 goals. Ipswich beat the Reds 4-2 in the 2000 Division One Play-Off Final at Wembley and then two years ago, The Reds led 2-0 at half time at Oakwell thanks to goals from Craig Davies and Ricardo Vaz Te. But strikes on 46, 49, 66, 68 and 83 saw Ipswich surge 5-2 ahead before a late Davies free kick reduced the arrears. The result was even more incredible due to the fact Barnsley went into the game on the back of four straight wins whilst Ipswich had lost seven in a row.

Ipswich have had a mediocre start to the season under Reds legend Mick McCarthy and have won just four of their 14 matches in all competitions.

All those four victories have come at home, and only the division’s top three sides- Burnley, Leicester and QPR have won more home matches.

The Tractor Boys are one of only two Championship sides yet to draw at home this season, along with Bournemouth.

The Suffolk outfit have failed to win any of their last four matches, drawing three, and have won just one of the last six.

Barnsley are unbeaten in back to back matches for the first time this season. The last time they went three matches without defeat was in the final three games of 2012-2013.

The Football League’s leakiest defence has gone their first 12 matches without a clean sheet for the first time since 1952-53. Back then it took an amazing 19 matches to achieve their first shut out.

Barnsley have lost their first six away matches of a season for the first time ever. It is the first time they have lost six in a row on the road since February/March 2012 when they lost seven.

The Reds are hunting just a third victory in 16 outings.

The Reds have shipped 30 league goals this season, more than any other Championship side and 16 of those have come in the final 15 minutes of games.
