Scotland Signs Up!
New one year deal for striker.
Jason Scotland has penned a new one-year contract at Oakwell. The 34 year old former Trinidad and Tobago international signed on a free transfer at the end of January following his release from Ipswich and scored six crucial goals as The Reds avoided the drop, including the second in the 2-2 final day draw at Huddersfield which saw Barnsley survive by a single point.
The former Swansea and Wigan man also became the first Barnsley player in 17 years to score in each of his first three league appearances.
Reds boss David Flitcroft told the club’s official website:
“Jason has enthusiasm, energy and desire. He is a fantastic person who wants to help support the younger players in the squad and pass on his superb knowledge about the game.
"Everyone who watches Jason knows about his goal-scoring abilities, but it is also the other side of him that really excites me because this is a player who has tremendous experience, know-how and drive that will benefit everyone.
"It's great to have Jason signed and I am hopeful we can follow this up with others in the coming weeks."
The deal will commence from the 1st July 2013.
