Out with the old, in with the new at Oakwell

Reds director Don Rowing has revealed plans which would see a new £100,000 scoreboard installed at Oakwell.

The current scoreboard, which has been in place since the building of the new North Stand is extremely dated and was, in fact, out of order for the Reds season opener against Middlesbrough.

The new one however, will show video highlights and even televised lunchtime kick offs, which will allow Reds fans to enter the ground early to watch.

Rowing told the Barnsley Chronicle:

“We can’t get replacement parts for the current scoreboard and have known for some time that we really need to replace it.

“We are going to bite the bullet and hopefully will have the new one in by the end of October.“It will be like the ones you see at most modern grounds.

“We can show highlights of games and will even consider opening the stadium earlier to allow supporters to watch televised matches."
