Barnsley manager Mark Robins hailed matchwinner Reuben Noble-Lazarus after his stunning strike sunk Millwall.
The 17-year-old stepped off the bench to fire a 60th-minute winner, as he rattled in his first goal in senior football to end the Tykes' campaign on a high.
Robins said: "Reuben deserved his goal. I was absolutely delighted for him. He was hailed as a wonderkid when he made his debut at 15.
"He's worked hard at his game and we've had to nurture him. We had to get him mixing with his own age group again.
"He has matured and he is now 17 and we can now see a difference in him. He has got a lot more in his locker.
"The other youngsters at the club have got to look at older players like Bobby Hassell to see what can be achieved in the game if they work hard."
