Barnsley are keen to secure the future of Andy Ritchie with a new contract after warding off interest in their highly-rated manager from Sheffield Wednesday.
Barnsley's South Yorkshire rivals had an approach for Ritchie rejected by the board at Oakwell earlier in the week and Tykes chairman Gordon Shepherd is now keen to secure the future of his manager.
"I think I'll be sitting down to discuss a new contract with the chairman in the next days or two," admitted Ritchie.
"They have made the decision that I can't speak to Sheffield Wednesday and want to open talks with me about a new contract and I'm quite prepared to do that.
"I'm happy to enter talks with the Barnsley board over a new contract for me and my coaching staff."
