Ricardo Signs For Reds

And Bobby is made captain! Ricardo Vaz Te has done enough to persuade Reds boss Keith Hill to sign him permanently and has agreed a one year contract at the club. The 24 year old former Bolton striker has impressed during pre-season, scoring in wins over Grimsby and Scunthorpe and now Hill has made the ex Portugal Under 21 international his eighth capture of the summer. Hill told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "He's got unfinished business in the English Leagues. On his day he can be a match winner." "He could be one of those players who takes up this opportunity and lights up the division, quite easily." Meanwhile the club’s longest serving current player has finally been awarded the captaincy. Bobby Hassell who has been at Oakwell since the summer of 2004 replaces Jason Shackell after his departure to Derby County. The 31 year old who has made over 250 appearances for the club since signing from Mansfield Town was vice captain last season but now takes over the main mantle. Bobby told the official club website:  "It's a good honour for myself,” "It's not going to be team Captain as such but Club Captain where I will go round and do various stuff for the lads, so just a link between the manager and the players. "I've come a long way as a person and as a footballer. I'm 31 now so I'm a mature person and a senior pro. I think my job around the place is to be a good example to the young lads and speak to them when I can."
