Motherwell striker in Flicker's sights
The Star is reporting that the Reds are considering a move for out-of-contract Motherwell striker Michael Higdon.
The 29-year-old Scouser's Fir Park deal runs out this summer and he is believed to be evaluating his options before committing to a new deal with the club.
Higdon netted 26 goals last season, making him the SPL's top goalscorer and he also scooped the Scottish Players' Player of the Year gong at the country's end of season awards.
Motherwell boss Stuart McCall was believed to be interested in taking Higdon to Bramall Lane if he became Sheffield United manager but after McCall turned down the Blades, the link was dead in the water.
Meanwhile at Oakwell, Reds boss David Flitcroft is confident that defender Martin Cranie will sign a new contract with the club. The 26-year-old who signed from Coventry City last year is believed to be in demand by several Championship clubs but Reds chief Flitcroft believes he will commit to the two year deal on the table at Oakwell.
Also, Sky Sports have this morning reported that the Reds are set to appoint Ben Mansford as their new chief executive after the retirement of Don Rowing.
Mansford is a football agent and a friend of new Reds chairman Maurice Watkins. He is currently a director of Wasserman Media Group (WMG) and will replace the outgoing Rowing.
