But Owls in front seat for striker.

Barnsley have entered discussions with former loan star Michael Chopra about a sensational return to Oakwell.

The 29 year old was a major success for The Reds when he joined on loan from Newcastle United for most of the 2004-2005 season. The 17 goals he netted that season have still not being bettered by any Barnsley player since.

The former England Under 21 international achieved great goal-scoring success for Cardiff after leaving St James Park but is currently at Ipswich Town, under the management of former Barnsley defender Mick McCarthy.

Chopra, has though been made surplus to requirements at Portman Road and according to Rob Staton on Twitter, he has been at Oakwell for talks this afternoon.

However Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones has today publicly registered his interest in Chopra and they would be able to offer substantially higher wages than Barnsley, something that could be important to Chopra who is still paying off gambling debts that culminated in him banned from betting on horses for 10 years in January.
