Reds Ditch Reserves Again

Counter productive towards Academy says Rowing Barnsley have once again decided to disband their reserve side and have therefore withdrawn from the Totesport.com Central Division League for the 2011-2012 season. This is the second time in three years that The Reds will not have a structured second string after former manager Simon Davey decided against it in the 2009-2010 season. His successor Mark Robins brought it back for 2010-2011 but now it is felt the club will be better suited to arranging games with other clubs themselves. Director Don Rowing told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "We've decided this year to not enter into the Central League but it is our intention to arrange games with other Clubs who are not in the Central League as and when we feel it's required. Last year with the strain of injuries, there was more pressure on the Academy players to go in the reserves which was counterproductive to their development within the Academy."
