Ram Raid For Shackell
Reds captain could leave. Barnsley have confirmed an approach from Derby County for captain Jason Shackell. The Rams, who finished a disappointing 19th in the Championship last season are looking to revamp their squad for an assault on promotion and have already secured the signings of Frank Fielding, Jamie Ward and Theo Robinson. Now manager Nigel Clough has his sights on Reds skipper Shackell, who enjoyed a fine debut season at Oakwell, winning the fans Player of the Year award. Barnsley today confirmed an approach had been made for the 27 year old who scored three goals in 46 games in 2010-2011 but stated no decision would be made about players going in or coming out until a new manager has been appointed. That new manager is still likely to be Rochdale’s Keith Hill. Talks with Hill stalled at the weekend, believed to be over wages, but director Don Rowing confirmed they would continue this week. Two players who will definitely be at Oakwell next season are Alastair Taylor and Reuben Noble-Lazarus who today both agreed new contracts. Noble-Lazarus made a big impact in the first team towards the latter stage of this season, and scored his first ever senior goal in the final day victory over Millwall. The 17 year old, who became the youngest ever Football League player in 2008 has signed a new two year contract tying him to the club until 2013, whilst 19 year old Taylor, who has three senior appearances under his belt signed a one year deal keeping him at Oakwell until 2012.
