The 25 year old suffered a badly bruised foot in the first half on Saturday and will be replaced by Luke Potter who will make his first start of the campaign. The 45 year old former physio had twice led the club into the Championship and managed to keep them up last season despite having virtually no money to spend. Iron chairman Steve Wharton once again decided to keep the managerial position in house and appointed Adkins’s first team coach Ian Baraclough on a caretaker basis. The former Scunthorpe defender made a blistering start, winning his first match 4-0 at Sheffield United! The Iron lost the next two matches, 2-0 at Swansea and 5-2 at home to Manchester United in the Carling Cup, but Baraclough was handed the reigns permanently on Friday 24th September and in his first permanent match in charge, he earned a credible 1-1 home draw with promotion challengers Ipswich. Scunthorpe have a shaky record at their Glanford Park home this season having won just once- 3-0 against Crystal Palace in August- and lost two of their four matches. Barnsley are searching for their first away win in 12 since a quick fire Daniel Bogdanovic brace earned a 2-0 success at Cardiff in February. Only bottom placed Leicester City have conceded more away than The Reds this season and their home form is the complete opposite of their away record. The Reds have won three and drawn one at Oakwell, but away from home they have drawn one and lost three. They haven’t kept a clean sheet on their travels since a 0-0 draw at Sheffield United in April.
