Moves For Greer And Etuhu Look Futile.
Both players expected to say down South.
Barnsley’s hopes of signing Brighton captain Gordon Greer and Portsmouth winger Kelvin Etuhu look like ending in disappointment with both players expected to remain at their respective clubs.
It was revealed last week that The Reds had tabled an offer for Greer who scored for the Seagulls in their 2-0 victory over Keith Hill’s side in November, but it was swiftly rejected. It has now been confirmed that Barnsley have tabled an improved offer but it still looks doomed to fail, with Greer not agitating for a move and manager Gus Poyet adamant his skipper is going nowhere.
Meanwhile, as revealed yesterday, The Reds had reignited moves to bring former Manchester City man Etuhu to Oakwell, 12 months after deciding against signing the 23 year old due to medical reasons. But this also looks like it will not happen after Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton revealed today the club have offered him a new two year contract and Reds director Don Rowing told the Star:
“We have spoken to Kelvin and his agent and put an offer to them, but it is looking increasingly like he will be staying with Portsmouth now.
“We’ll see how that one develops, but it isn’t looking overly promising.”
