Veteran Derby County defender Darren Moore has agreed a two-year contract with Barnsley.
The 34-year-old, who made 31 Premier League appearances for the Rams last season, started his career with Torquay United and also played for Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City, Portsmouth and West Brom before moving to Pride Park in January 2006.
Tykes boss Simon Davey told the club's official website: "We've been looking to increase competition at the back and we've brought in a player with a proven pedigree.
"Darren's won promotion four times from the Championship during his career and we're delighted to have persuaded him to join up, despite interest from a lot of other clubs.
"He'll play a big part in our squad next season both on and off the pitch and his experience will be a massive bonus for us as we head into the new season."
