Striker sidelined for three months.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has revealed he will have to make a desperate last-ditch dash into the transfer market for a new striker after it has been confirmed that new signing, the Egyptian Mido could be out for three months with a torn hamstring.

The 29 year old who was a marquee signing for The Reds this summer, tore his hamstring during the warm up in the friendly at Doncaster last weekend and confirmed via Twitter that the MRI scan showed a grade two hamstring tear which can take from six to nine weeks to repair.

The former Tottenham and Middlesbrough man will be joined on the sidelines by another summer signing- Portuguese youngster Toni Silva. The 18 year old also hurt his hamstring at the Keepmoat Stadium and will be out for another a month.

Hill told the Sheffield Star:

“It’s a massive blow, but there’s nothing we could have done to prevent them.

“Mido pulled his hamstring shooting in the warm-up against Doncaster and the scan’s revealed it’s a bad injury, it’s very serious.

“It’s a shame both players are injured, but we’ve just got to get on with it.”

“We’ve got an obvious problem, we need to get a striker in the building as soon as possible. We’re going to have to dip into the transfer market.”

“It’s going to be difficult to get a recognised striker with less than a week to go until we play Rochdale, but we’ll be trying our best.”

Meanwhile Barnsley have lost their final pre-season friendly, going down 1-0 at Crewe tonight. Trialists Ibrahima Sonko and Scott Hogan played the full 90 minutes.
