Mi-Don't Believe It!

Egyptian hitman signs on

Yep, it's actually happened. The Reds have signed Egyptian striker Mido on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old has today signed a one-year deal to join Barnsley FC, with the option of a further year extension.

He left his homeland club Zamalek after a fall out with management and the man who has represented Spurs, Middlesbrough and Ajax to name but a few, has penned a deal at Oakwell.

He represents a real "box-office" signing for the Club, and is likely to make his league debut against Middlesbrough, one of his former employers.

He spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield after signing;

"I'm glad that we've finalised everything so soon and I'm looking forward to pre-season.

"A number of clubs were interested in me but once I'd spoken to the manager here this was where I wanted to come."

He added: "I've kept my house here in England and my family stayed here so I always knew I would come back.

"It's important for me to be playing regularly, which is something I haven't been able to do in Egypt because of everything that's happened there.

"I just want to work hard, train hard and score goals for this club.

"I've moved on from the mistakes I've made in my past and I'm a different person to who I was."

Reds general manager Don Rowing told how boss Keith Hill and his assistant Dave Flitcroft were so pivotal in bringing Mido to Oakwell.

Hill spoke to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"It's a great signing for the football club and for the profile of the Club.

"I am looking forward to working with a player of exceptional talent. There will be plenty of work to be done and that will be a reflection of what we will see on match day. We can't wait to get going."
