Second keeper in a week to sign on.

Hot on the heels of the free transfer signing of Ben Alnwick from Tottenham, Barnsley have moved to ensure they have three keepers on their professional books for next season by handing Lithuanian Under 21 international Lukas Lidakevicius his first professional contract.

The 19 year old has progressed through the Reds Academy and was a regular for both the youngsters and reserve side in 2011-2012, whilst he also made a few appearances on the first team’s bench towards the end of last season when David Preece and Luke Steele were out injured.

Lidakevicius is also a regular with the Lithuanian under 19 side and was chosen to represent the Under 21 side last season.

He told the club’s official website:

“This is what I’ve been dreaming about. Last year Willco came in and has put on some great sessions. I’ve trained with Steeley and Preecey for the past two years and I’ve been getting better every day. To train with professionals like them and a great coach like Ian has made me better. I love it here in Barnsley. It’s my home now.
