Laws and Davey set to strengthen
The pair watched Barnsley fight back from two goals down after being thoroughly outplayed in the first period to draw 2-2 at Hillsborough, and both revealed new recruits are poised to join their respective clubs.
The Owls looked a class above in the first 45 minutes and went in at the break 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Jermaine Johnson and Michael Gray, his first for the club.
But Davey's Tykes refused to roll over and hit back in the second half with impressive teenage midfielder Jacob Butterfield firing his first senior goal on his full debut and Jon Macken hauling Barnsley level in the 75th minute.
Laws said: "Money's tight but I'm trying to manouvre some money so we can go and bring in a player and it will be a striker if we do that.
"I've already had permission from a Premier League club to speak to the player and I'm doing that as we speak.
"I spoke with him on Friday and his agent and I'll be speaking again with him on Sunday to try and persuade him to come to this club."
Laws admitted his side had faltered in the second half after thrilling the home fans in a crowd of 30,644 before the break.
He added: "Any manager that comes in at half-time with a two-goal lead will be disappointed not to win the game.
"But this is a derby and no teams lie down. Barnsley did not come here to lie down.
"We set off at a really good pace and I've got to be honest I thought we looked like Real Madrid in the first half.
"We just stopped doing what we were doing in the first half and that disappointed me.
"We got sloppy with our passing and gave Barnsley an edge to push us further back and we conceded some really poor goals.
"But we had a 31,000 crowd here and at half-time they must have been rubbing their hands with delight at what they've seen out there, but then they'll probably go home really disappointed, so I hope they don't overlook the first half."
Davey revealed he expects Jamaica international defender O'Neil Thompson, Liverpool winger Adam Hammill and Icelandic midfielder Emil Hallfredsson, who has played in Italy with Reggina, to all agree deals with Barnsley early next week.
He said: "O'Neil is waiting for a work permit. We've agreed a deal with his club Notodden in Norway and we've agreed terms with the player.
"We have Adam Hammill coming in tomorrow, so hopefully we'll have another player signed. He's agreed terms, everything's agreed.
"The Icelandic player is playing for Iceland on Wednesday night and we're just waiting for him to play in that."
Davey insisted his side could have gone on and snatched all the points after a much-improved second half display.
He added: "It's a shame we didn't win. I thought we had more chances that Wednesday. We could have come away with three points.
"We showed character with our second-half performance. We overpowered them and I thought we looked fitter and stronger. There was only one team going to win it.
"But 2-2 is a result after looking dead and buried."
