Sky Sports are reporting that the Reds have entered the chase for Bayern Munich winger Dale Jennings.
The 20-year-old was being courted by several clubs from all around Europe in 2011 after a storming first half of the season for Tranmere Rovers, and ended up sealing a dream move to Munich in the January.
He has struggled to settle in to life at the Allianz Arena and has spent most of his time playing for the German and European champions but has spent most of his time there playing for their 'B' team.
Reds' Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town are also believed to be courting Jennings following his revelation that he wants to move back to the UK.
Barnsley were chasing the Liverpool-born winger in 2011 before he moved to Bayern Munich.
BBC Radio Sheffield journalist Rob Staton has tweeted to say that there may be some substance to the Jennings rumour, saying earlier:
"Hearing there might be something in these Dale Jennings - #BarnsleyFC reports. Should know more after the weekend"
