Hill Admits Defeat In Move For Trio

Greer, Etuhu and Carayol will not be joining.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has admitted defeat in his early close season pursuits of Gordon Greer, Kelvin Etuhu and Mustapha Carayol.

The Reds have had two bids rejected for Brighton captain Greer and the club have now confirmed they will not be making a third, whilst Hill revealed this week that earlier targets Etuhu and Carayol would not be pursued with the pair likely to sign for Portsmouth and Middlesbrough respectively.

Hill though is refusing to panic and is prepared to bide his time. Highlighting the fact that last season’s top scorer Ricardo Vaz Te did not sign until August he said:

"I am looking hard for all sorts of players, including those with Championship experience. We have our net cast far and wide, and will look abroad if need be, while we are also developing our own players. Our Academy is beginning to bear fruit.

"There is no panic here, certainly not on my account. People have to remember that is a 'cat and mouse' game played very much with agents these days. Two of my best signings were made in August last year. "I am determined to bring in the kind of players that will please the supporters – and get them wanting to come to games and watch them perform in the red shirt of Barnsley.  "I am a driven football man, and what drives me at Barnsley is to be successful."
