Bobby Hassell has today signed a new one year contract with Barnsley, taking him into his tenth season at Oakwell.

The 33-year-old defender joined the Reds from Mansfield Town back in June 2004 and has gone on to rack up 295 appearances, scoring eight goals, including the crucial winner at home to Watford last term.

A real fans favourite with the Oakwell faithful, Hassell told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk of his delight at signing on for another year:

“I’m really happy I’ve been able to sign a new contract. I’m happy with the deal and I’m looking forward to the start of the new season.   “This summer has been quite hectic for me. I’ve been on coaching courses and with my wife in and out of hospital with our fourth child and that’s the main reason it’s taken time get everything sorted out with a new contract here.   “I’ve never had so many people stop me in the street begging me to sign a new contract which is quite humbling, but at that time I hadn’t spoken to anyone because I was more concerned about my wife’s illness and the baby.”   This just leaves Luke Steele and Martin Cranie to decide on their futures at Oakwell, with decisions from both players expected within the next couple of days.
