Gray explains Oakwell switch
27 Aug 2009 - 12:15:11
Barnsley new boy Andy Gray has explained his reasons for leaving Charlton Athletic to head to Oakwell.
The 31-year-old frontman suffered with injury and family problems during his one season at The Valley and is sad to have had to move on after such a short stay.
He told the South London Press: "It might sound strange but I really enjoyed my time at Charlton.
"My wife has been ill and she's still in the early stages of her recovery, so it's important for us to be around our family as much as possible and to have them for support.
"If circumstances had been different I wouldn't have wanted to leave.
"I'll look back on my time at the club with frustration. With one thing and another it was a pretty disastrous year all round. My wife became ill, I got injured and Charlton were relegated.
"I would have loved to be able to show the fans more of what I can do because they certainly didn't see the best of me, but that's how football is sometimes."
