The decisive goal arrived after 53 minutes on Saturday when Fryatt latched on to a superb floated pass from Wellens before blasting the ball beyond Barnsley keeper Luke Steele from seven yards. Fryatt said: "Barnsley made it hard work for us. It's always difficult to break down a side who play 4-5-1. "I had a good chance to score in the first half but it was on my weaker foot and I didn't get anything on it. But I knew another chance would come if I remained patient. "It was a great ball in from Richie Wellens, he showed great vision, and that was the key to my goal. All I had to do was make sure I controlled the ball and hit it right." Fryatt had wasted a fine opportunity in the first half when he scuffed his shot against Steele from close range after Wellens had left him one on one with the keeper. City picked up the pace after the restart and almost broke the deadlock after 51 minutes when Steele had to be at full stretch to keep out Robbie Neilson's header with Anderson De Silva blocking Fryatt's follow-up shot. City found themselves in front after 53 minutes when Fryatt's patience was rewarded with a goal and Jack Hobbs almost doubled their advantage a few minutes later when he headed a Paul Gallagher corner into the side netting. Wayne Brown snuffed out a rare Barnsley raid on the hour mark when he slid in to block Andy Gray's close-range shot after good work by Jamal Campbell-Ryce. Steele then conjured up two brilliant saves in as many minutes to deny first Gallagher and then Dany N'Guessan. But there were moments when City looked vulnerable at the back and they survived a scare late on when Barnsley substitute Robert Kozluk saw an angled shot drift just wide of the far post. Leicester manager Nigel Pearson said: "It was a tough game in many ways but I thought we thoroughly deserved our win. We upped our performance in the second half when our tempo was much better. "It's three points and adds to a very solid start to the season. "Sides are very hard to beat in this division and I thought Barnsley made it very difficult for us. "I'm very pleased with the players' application. They were professional and remained focused on the job." Barnsley manger Simon Davey felt his side had done enough to gain something from the game. He said: "Defeat is disappointing. I thought there was very little between the teams. "We made one error, one mistimed tackle and the ball was in the back of the net. With a little bit more concentration we could have come away with a point. "But I felt there were some positives for us from the game. We looked a more balanced team than of late. Our link play up front was a big bonus and the new players we've brought in can only make us better and stronger." Davey tipped Leicester to push for promotion if they continue their home form which has now seen them go 25 games unbeaten at the Walkers Stadium. Davey said: "They are still running on the adrenalin from last season. This league is all about nip and tuck, but if Leicester can continue to keep their home form going, then they can make a real challenge this season, but it will be difficult."
