Barnsley and their supporters have today received a massive boost with the news that David Flitcroft and his coaching team of Martin Scott and Micky Mellon have committed their futures to the club by signing new contracts.
The trio took over the reigns at Oakwell at the end of December with The Reds marooned to the bottom of the Championship table having won just one of their previous 15 matches.
Flicker and his team though produced an unbelievable run in 2013 of nine wins in 21 to escape relegation on the final day of the season.
When the trio were put in charge they were given deals until the end of the 2012-2013 season but all three will remain in charge for 2013-2014.
A club statement revealed:
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce that David Flitcroft has agreed terms to remain as first team manager at Oakwell.
Flitcroft took charge of the team at the start of the year when Barnsley were bottom of the Championship and guided the Reds to survival on the final day of the campaign. He also helped guide Barnsley to the quarter finals of the FA Cup against Manchester City.
The new deal will also keep David Flitcroft’s assistant manager Micky Mellon, technical coach Martin Scott and the other backroom staff at Oakwell.
Further details will be announced at a press conference next week. The date of this will be confirmed shortly.
