New man in at the Keepmoat

Championship newcomers and the Reds' South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers have appointed former Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov as their new manager.

The Scotsman succeeds Brian Flynn, who moved upstairs at the Keepmoat Stadium to take up the director of football role after masterminding Rovers' return to the second tier as champions of League One.

Dickov resigned from his Boundary Park post in February, just six days after leading the Latics to a 3-2 FA Cup win over Liverpool but quit due to the Lancashire side's poor league showing. They ended up surviving relegation to League Two.

40-year-old former striker Dickov had a decent playing career, spending the most part of his career at Manchester City, where he netted 35 goals in 158 appearances over six years at Maine Road. He also had a good spell at Leicester City, racking up over 100 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 32 goals.

The appointment was announced at a 4pm press conference on Monday, seemingly beating ex Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn boss Michael Appleton to the post.
