Davey relief at Tykes victory
22 Oct 2008 - 11:12:06
Barnsley manager Simon Davey admitted his relief after Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday eased the pressure on his shoulders.
Goals from Iain Hume and Jamal Campbell-Ryce scored the goals that secured only a second win in eight Championship games.
"We thoroughly deserved it. From the off we were the better side," claimed Davey.
"They had a ten-minute spell in the second half when they got the penalty but we could have been three or four up at half-time.
"The lads were brilliant today. They showed everything. They can play, but they showed the passion and the commitment and they worked their socks off and they deserved their win."
Meanwhile, Davey admitted he was wrong to get involved in a touchline spat with Tony McMahon after the on-loan Owls defender was sent off for a high tackle on Rob Kozluk.
"I got a bit heated because I felt it was a bad tackle," he added.
"I didn't think it was right, but perhaps I shouldn't have got involved in that, but it was a bad tackle. It was a sending-off offence."
