Davey impressed by Thompson

The Jamaica international arrived on Friday and was thrown straight into the side to face Mark Hughes' big spenders on Saturday as the Reds drew 1-1. Davey was impressed with the 25-year-old's performance in midfield, particularly as he was brought over to play in central defence. He told the club's official website: "He's a centre-back who can also play in central midfield. He's played in both positions for Jamaica and primarily we were looking at him as a centre-half. "But we threw him straight into the fire against Manchester City and if there's ever going to be a tough trial period it's being made to face Manchester City. It was sink or swim and I thought he did very well and he swam. "He's here for another week. We'll have him in until Thursday or Friday and make a decision over the next five or six days."
