Carbon worry for Tykes

Thursday Sep 29 2005 14:09

Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie has revealed that he was forced to substitute Matt Carbon at half-time of Tuesday's defeat at Scunthorpe United because he was experiencing breathing difficulties.

Ritchie admitted he was concerned about the situation, but was delighted to be able to give Tony Vaughan his first competitive action since February as Carbon's replacement.

"Matt came in at half-time and could not breathe properly. We did not know whether he took a bang or what so we decided not to risk him," the Tykes boss told the club's official website.

"Tony Vaughan came back into the team and did very well.

"I do not think Tony has anything to prove to anyone after sitting on the bench but he has missed three months of football so it was good to have him back."
