Butterfield Named In Under 21 Squad

Academy graduate earns international recognition.

Midfielder Jacob Butterfield has capped a fantastic start to the season by earning a call-up to Stuart Pearce’s England Under 21 squad.

The 21 year old who has bagged four goals in 16 appearances this season and has firmly established himself as the leader of Keith Hill’s side, is one of five uncapped players selected for the Euro 2013 Qualifying matches against Iceland and Belgium. The match with Iceland takes place at Colchester United’s Western Homes Community stadium on the 10th November.

Under 21 coach Stuart Pearce who is missing injured regular Henri Lansbury said:

"I've called in a few first-timers, though, who have impressed this season. Lewis Dunk has been playing particular well at Brighton. He seems to play above his age in the way he carries himself on a football pitch. Nathaniel Clyne, Tom Carroll and Jacob Butterfield, likewise, have looked good for their clubs and have forced their way into our thinking.
