Former skipper could join on loan

Former Barnsley captain Jacob Butterfield could be set for a sensational return to Oakwell after it was revealed he is to be sent out on loan.

And some reports online suggest Butterfield may be tempted to rejoin the club he left in the summer for Norwich City, for whom he has made just two Capital One Cup appearances.

He came up through the ranks at Oakwell and made exactly 100 appearances for Barnsley, scoring eight goals. Seven of which were in the first half of last season.

His last appearance in a Barnsley shirt came in the 4-1 drubbing of Leeds on New Years Eve last year, being stretchered off after 12 minutes after a shocking tackle from Michael Brown. He was replaced by Ricardo Vaz Te, who went on to bag a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Reds manager Keith Hill has revealed that he was gazumped by Huddersfield to the signing of Reading striker Simon Church.
