Break not bad for Colgan
09 Aug 2006 - 14:58:50
Barnsley have been boosted by the news goalkeeper Nick Colgan should be fit to face Colchester on Saturday, despite breaking his nose in the 3-2 win at Hull City on Tuesday.
Colgan suffered the injury when former Reds hitman Jon Parkin charged into him on the way to bagging his second goal of the game for the Tigers at the KC Stadium, but Andy Ritchie is confident he will be back in the side to face the U's.
He told the club's official website: "Nick's nose is broken but to be honest I think the lad has straightened it out for him! You can play with a broken nose so I have no concerns about him for the weekend."
Meanwhile Ritchie warned new signing Colin Healy he faces a real battle to force his way into the Tykes midfield following Sam Togwell and Brian Howard's display at Hull as the players fought back from two-down to secure the three points.
He added: "Colin will sign for us on Thursday and we are all delighted to have him here. He is a quality player and he will be available for Colchester.
"Colin only wanted a one-year contract and that really suits everybody concerned. We are quite happy with that and will have a quality addition to our squad.
"Having said that and on the two games so far I think he might struggle to get into our midfield. Colin told me after the Cardiff game that he will have to be at his best to dislodge Sam and Brian but that sort of competition is what we need."
